Director Masterclass with Matt Wolf

An exclusive masterclass with director Matt Wolf (NYC).

In Spaceship Earth (2020), award-winning NYC-based filmmaker Matt Wolf stitches together present-day and archival footage – drawn from over 600 hours of material – to tell this almost unbelievable moment in history about eight visionaries who in 1991 spent two years quarantined inside a self-engineered replica of Earth’s ecosystem called Biosphere 2.

We held on online screening followed by an exclusive masterclass with Wolf on his archival-led approach to documentary filmmaking, long-form interviewing, themes across his body of work, and the making of Spaceship Earth. The film can still be viewed on DocPlay here, and if you want even more head to our recorded panel discussion on speculative futures here.

“How could something so epic in its ambition and scope fade from collective memory? These are the types of forgotten histories that inspire me as a filmmaker, and I was convinced that the prevailing narrative that Biosphere 2 was simply a ‘failure’ is wrong.” – Matt Wolf
